Tatts Finke Desert Race

The Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off road, multi terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community. The race is held each year on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June. “Finke” as it is commonly known, is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world. Alice Springs Street Art Festival

Alice Springs Beanie Festival

There are hats and hats – these beanies stretch the definitions like never before.

The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is a unique event that celebrates this great Australian icon. It’s the place people can come to find the perfect beanie from among more than 4,000 beanies displayed at the Araluen Cultural Precinct in Alice Springs.

A full weekend with music, the famous tea shop, the Beanie Olympics, and a fantastic program of textile workshops and crafts for kids. Indigenous artists from local communities demonstrate their ancient spinning techniques and basket making. Find out more here.

Alice Springs Show

The Alice Springs Show is a traditional rural show with a very close association with the regional cattle stations, and is based on agricultural produce, livestock and craft. The Camel Cup

It is on again in 2021!! The quirky, annual Apex Camel Cup attracts visitors to Alice Springs from all over the world.

While camels may have a reputation as dedicated ‘ships of the desert’, these magnificent beasts are certainly not short on personality. Racing them can prove a nightmare for riders and handlers but fantastic viewing for spectators. Entertainment is assured, with nine unique races scheduled around the dusty outback track throughout the day. Find out more here

 

Back to the Track 2021

In July and August 2021, groups of military vehicle collectors from around Australia will converge on Alice Springs and make the wartime journey and travel along the track to Darwin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VJ Day and the end of the Second World War in the Pacific.

Rotary Henley-On-Todd Regatta

The Henley-On-Todd Regatta is the most iconic event in the Australian outback, mainly because of its totally unique nature. Its a boat race – without any sign of water! Its a day of fun where teams and individuals race ‘boats’, in the dry bed of the Todd River in outback Alice Springs. Have fun and enjoy the hilarity as you watch seemingly sane people race in bottomless ‘eights’, ‘Oxford tubs’, ‘rowing 8’s’ and ‘yachts’ through the deep coarse sand. Find out more here.
